So for all you newcomers, or tourists in search of authenticity, here we give you all our secrets (well, almost 😏).
Marché des Capucins: The Belly of Bordeaux
Nicknamed the “belly of Bordeaux“, the Marché des Capucins is one of the city’s oldest and liveliest markets. Located in the Saint-Michel district, it attracts a diverse and cosmopolitan crowd. This covered market offers an impressive variety of fresh produce: seasonal fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, meats, cheeses, and of course, local specialties such as cannelés and oysters from the Bassin d’Arcachon. The Capucins market is also a convivial place where you can enjoy tapas, traditional dishes and regional specialties in a warm and lively atmosphere. The Capucins market is the landing point for our gourmet tour of Old Bordeaux. And if you go there at the weekend, you’ll be treated to a whole host of entertainment!

Marché des Chartrons: eating well organically
Located on the Quais des Chartrons, this farmers’ market takes place every morning. The stalls are brimming with local produce, from organic fruit and vegetables to artisan cheeses, quality meats and farmhouse breads. It’s the ideal place to meet local producers and learn more about their practices and products.
In addition to the culinary delights, the setting of the Chartrons market is a real asset: the quayside offers a breathtaking view of the Garonne, and the market is often enlivened by musicians and street performers, making the visit even more enjoyable. Marché Royal (Saint-Michel): Multiculturality
Another must-see is the Saint-Michel market, located at the foot of the Saint-Michel spire. This market is distinguished by its multicultural atmosphere and exotic products. You’ll find spices, exotic fruits and vegetables, oriental and African products, as well as clothing and handicrafts. You won’t find any meat or fish.
Every Saturday, food stalls and trucks join non-food vendors. This market is always a delightful time of smells and colors. Serious, experienced traders offer a wide choice of quality products.
The market is particularly popular for its lively atmosphere and bargains.

Les Halles de Bacalan: a new party venue
Located opposite the Cité du Vin, Les Halles de Bacalan is a must for food lovers. Inaugurated in 2017, they bring together some twenty local producers offering fresh, quality produce: fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese and more.
Les Halles de Bacalan is also a place for tasting and conviviality. You can enjoy a variety of specialties on site, at communal tables or on the terrace overlooking the Garonne. Regular events, tastings and culinary workshops bring the place to life. We even organize numerous events for groups!
Open: Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
